Week 2: Predictions vs. Reality
Yahoo’s projections got some matchups right, but Week 2 also delivered a few clear surprises. The table below compares all ten matchups with the pre-week projections.
| Matchup | Yahoo prediction | Actual result | Quick verdict |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cleveland Forge – Hartford Arsenal | 542–604 | 654–644 | ❌ Cleveland overturned the projection and won a close one. |
| Key West Rumrunners – Houston Signals | 585–652 | 557–703 | ✓ Houston won as expected — and by an even bigger margin. |
| Green Bay Alliance – Saskatoon Prairie Drifters | 484–626 | 487–537 | ✓ Saskatoon won as projected, with both teams finishing below the early estimates. |
| Roswell Greys – Richmond Union | 569–559 | 585–578 | ✓ Roswell held on in a tight finish. |
| Omaha Bison – Cincinnati Rivermen | 569–544 | 470–538 | ❌ Cincinnati flipped the prediction and won comfortably. |
| New Orleans Soul – Charlotte Amalie Corsairs | 426–514 | 555–459 | ❌ New Orleans produced one of the week’s clearest reversals. |
| Amarillo Downburst – Memphis Riffs | 576–555 | 674–511 | ✓ Amarillo won as projected, with a much stronger performance. |
| Halifax Privateers – Quebec City Citadels | 531–565 | 416–496 | ✓ Quebec City won as projected, while Halifax fell well short of its projection. |
| Honolulu Guardians – Salem Ravens | 545–585 | 496–538 | ✓ Salem won as projected, though by a narrower margin than forecast. |
| Kelowna Vintners – Victoria Cedars | 538–573 | 526–468 | ❌ Kelowna beat the projection despite being the underdog. |
The lesson is simple: projections are a useful reference, not a guarantee. Cleveland, Cincinnati, New Orleans and Kelowna overturned the expected outcome. Houston and Amarillo turned projected wins into convincing performances, while Saskatoon and Quebec City also delivered as expected.
Average Fan Points per Player
The tables rank teams within each division by the average of their players’ season averages.
West Division
| Rank | Team | Average Fan Pts |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Amarillo Downburst | 12.33 |
| 2 | Kelowna Vintners | 11.11 |
| 3 | Salem Ravens | 10.41 |
| 4 | Honolulu Guardians | 10.34 |
| 5 | Victoria Cedars | 10.14 |
Amarillo leads the West, with Kelowna also posting a strong average. The standings here reflect roster-wide season averages rather than a prediction of any single matchup.
Central Division
| Rank | Team | Average Fan Pts |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Memphis Riffs | 12.50 |
| 2 | Cincinnati Rivermen | 10.82 |
| 3 | Saskatoon Prairie Drifters | 10.58 |
| 4 | Omaha Bison | 10.13 |
| 5 | Green Bay Alliance | 9.94 |
Memphis tops the Central. Cincinnati’s win over Omaha is a useful reminder that roster averages do not determine the outcome of an individual matchup.
East Division
| Rank | Team | Average Fan Pts |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Richmond Union | 12.16 |
| 2 | Hartford Arsenal | 11.30 |
| 3 | Halifax Privateers | 10.30 |
| 4 | Quebec City Citadels | 10.21 |
| 5 | Cleveland Forge | 9.87 |
Richmond leads the East, while Cleveland’s win over the higher-projected Hartford side shows how quickly a weekly matchup can differ from the broader roster picture.
South Division
| Rank | Team | Average Fan Pts |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Key West Rumrunners | 11.24 |
| 2 | Houston Signals | 11.19 |
| 3 | Roswell Greys | 10.26 |
| 4 | New Orleans Soul | 9.46 |
| 5 | Charlotte Amalie Corsairs | 9.04 |
Key West narrowly leads Houston by roster average, even though Houston delivered the stronger Week 2 matchup performance. New Orleans’ win over Charlotte Amalie is another reminder that averages are only one snapshot.
The Community Is Starting to Create Its Own Content
One of the best signs for IceCore is that the community is beginning to contribute beyond managing rosters. Thanks to Murad, our Reddit space is starting to develop into a place for proper league content and discussion. Standik has also been creating content in the league chat.
That initiative matters. It gives the league more personality, encourages discussion between matchups and takes some of the content workload off the organiser. A big thank-you to both of them for stepping up on their own initiative — this is exactly the kind of community spirit that can make IceCore more than just a fantasy league.
The results make the competition. The GMs make the league.
